The Red Wheelbarrow
For my second entry in Jan's book (theme Red/Read) I thought of the William Carlos Williams' poem "The Red Wheelbarrow." I googled it to be sure I had all the words correct and one of the top results was a bookstore in Paris with the same name. It seemed too good to be true. I also added some chickens from one of my daughter's favorite books "Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type."
Marker, Ink and watercolor.

And... the Full Spread
My Pages in Jan's Book
*Finally*................ I am finished doing my delicious 'Red / Read Spread' in Jan's Moly.
This book has been one of my favourites, because of the theme or perhaps
the fact that I got to do so much more with the extra pages I 'm not certain, but I have
had a ball. I am pleased with the overall look of my work, however, my hand writing
lets me down it is terribly shoddy....eeek.
Hope you LIKE Jan!

Sorry to post each picture separately but it seems the only way I can do it to enable them to enlarge when clicked on.

Jan's Book, My entry
I love the way Tracy's apple unknowingly set me up to draw the Twilight book cover. The quote from the book that I chose to illustrate is hard to read in this pic. It says "And so the lion fell in love with the lamb... What a stupid lamb...what a sick, masochistic lion."

Moleskine Exchange-Jan's Book
I drew my daughter's outgrown little red boots. I added text from an old health text book about a field trip to a farm. The colored pencil didn't photograph very well. It looks like I colored them with crayons.

Finally...
....finished

or is it??.....not decided yet whether to add the wolf's paw prints or not. I'll decide by Monday and leave it as a surprise!!
The drawing was inspired by Alison's little Red Riding Hood at the bottom left of the image, starting out on the path. I pinched Alison's idea of a book in a book too as it seems to fit well with Jan's theme of red/read. ....great theme by the way. I think I've also been influenced by other moly exchange artists as this is nothing like my usual style.... but I thoroughly enjoyed doing it.
...and thank you very much for the wee gifties Jan...excellent!

Jan's Moly, 2nd rotation
The quest for the perfect, non-fugitive red
Here I am, done in time - just as well, since the rest of the week is already bespoke. I have been inspired by my current reading of Colour, travels through the paintbox (see, here, with a slightly different title) by Victoria Finlay, particularly the chapter, Red, red being Jan's theme. The edge left by Jan suggested the book within a book idea and I did a bit more than 2 1/2 pages as Jan had done less - but actually I agree with Jan that it's better not to end at a fold - well it doesn't really matter - whatever the contribution needs, I think. So there we are - I pass this along and look forward to the next one :)

Jan's Moly has arrived at Alison's

You can see Jan's moly sitting on my light box(oh, so useful) where I can muse upon it for a while. In front of the light box is a collection of things that belonged to my grandfather - I am drawing them in another accordion-fold strip and my father will annotate them as he pleases.
On the right, I have set up one of my vessel arrangements, in the corner box, for Jana who wants to see see how I do them - the shadows are real but the view I draw is carefully selected and very cropped. In this case, the left hand pot needs to be lower so is standing on a book outside the corner box - I only drew its shadow.
Beyond the table, is the sofa which is 'my spot' with my thread box currently on the tea-chest 'side table' -(my next art dead-line is the Geelong wool quilt exhibition - and beyond that, my art stuff cupboard and home of all my vessels. Of course, most of my 'stuff' is outside in my 'studio' a converted carport - too messy to work in at the moment and anyway we save on heating if we just use the one room. My partner's table is to the left and is always completely cleared each night!
